A genuine old survivor from the Street Machine era!
If you're looking for a mint or original spec example of the now highly desirable HQ Monaro Coupe, then this probably isn't the car for you, so keep looking, and the very best of luck!
If you are however after a good old survivor that drives great and still turns plenty of heads then this example is definitely worth a look!
According to the original body tags which are all still in place this example Started life as a Melbourne built 3.3 HQ LS Monaro Coupe, delivered new to NZ, and first registered here in 1973.
Although far from its original spec today, she is still with us, and this example has managed to survive the decades without receiving the usual pop up sunroofs, bonnet scoops, Ratchet shifters, and other nasty little tricks that these cars were usually subjected to when they had little to no value...
This example has been the subject of a very thorough cosmetic refurbishment at the hands of its last long time caretaker, and has probably been restored to a budget rather than a standard, however the bones appear good, and the car is surprisingly clean underneath, with near perfect painted original floors that are not bashed to death, and on inspection this example has clearly been loved and had a lot of money spent on it over time.
The body appears to be reasonably solid and straight with no blindingly obvious previous repairs visible, and the paintwork which is an older finish now and was more than likely applied at home, rather than a professional shop, still looks the part, has a decent shine, and presents pretty well, especially for the for the price bracket....
The interior is presented in street machine period style with black and blue vinyl and wood grain, and is tidy and functional, retaining an original console and bucket seats.
The 4 barrel 350 cubic inch small block Chevy runs nice, and shifts nicely into a TH350 trans, all of which is fully LVVTA certified, and this example has more than decent manners on the road, cruising along well.
A pretty complete example of a now very desirable iconic Monaro model, that will quite happily carry on providing plenty more smiles per gallon just the way she is today, or could be taken to the next level with a bit of enthusiasm and elbow grease, to become an even more desirable collector car.
Either way, the fact that this example exists today in a price bracket that isn't nearing the six figures is a rare find, so you can decide which way to go over time, but you really couldn't go wrong either way, as at least you can say you actually have one, and possibly without remortgaging the farm!
