###SOLD### SOLD####The Allan Wylie Coupe.....
Wow... how do you even start to describe the calibre of this well known and iconic car...
50 years of ownership by an incredibly talented mechanical engineering wizard would have you thinking this car was very well sorted.. but that would be the understatement of the century...comparable to saying that Henry Ford built a few cars...
This simply gorgeous old Coupe has to be seen and driven to be taken in, and to fully appreciate the execution of excellence that exudes form every part of her, a fully documented history from the last 50 years shows the development from a file finished bare metal shell, progressing through to detailed articles in respected national motoring magazines, and everything in between, including competing at the Lead foot festival of speed, and local sealed Hill climb events with stunning results.
You may be thinking yes, but how good can it be? it's still an old Flathead....well technically I guess you could say that, but I cannot think of an overhead valve Hot Rod that we have sold that would be anywhere close to this car in actual drivability and overall performance in the 20 years we have been trading, it is simply that good.
The latest incarnation of the iconic Flathead that has resided in this car since 2015 is a 59A series engine with owner developed Multi -Point EFI complete with a Super Charger which provides unbelievably smooth effortless power to a W-50 Toyota 5 speed gearbox on into a Falcon LSD, which is suspended by modified Transverse springs panhard rods and telescopic Koni shocks with anti roll bars front and rear, while braking is taken care of by XW Falcon 11 inch vented discs with alloy XF callipers up front, and 56 Ford 12 inch drums on the rear.
Power steering is also fitted to make things even more pleasant on the road, and for total reliability many of the old niggly sidevalve ancillaries have gone in favour of items such as Electronic Fuel injection, an electric water pump, a custom alloy radiator, with electric cooling fans all controlled by ECUs, and a new Marelli 100 amp alternator, while the entire engine system is controlled by a Link Plus Gen 3 ECU, and everything can be monitored with ease.
Although restored some time ago now, and driven on a regular basis she is still in excellent over all condition, and still looks like a very recent build. The body is remarkable and the paintwork beautiful, both complemented by stunning traditional stainless trim and chrome.
The interior is also a work of art with a moulded genuine leather seat and handcrafted trim with a spectacular original dash being home to traditional 36 gauges and discrete period switches for operating the electric windows, both side and rear glass, and a number of other little details including all of the stainless screws lining up and facing the same way! all making you realise just how special this lovely old car really is.
It quite simply doesn't get any better than this, or if it does we are certainly yet to see it...this is a very special car that would drive and ride over all a lot better than many new cars, it is so easy to drive and manoeuvre and it really is true testament to the understated genius of its creator.
50 years is a long time to own a car, and this has been an agonising decision for the owner of this lovely old Coupe, but it is time for a new chapter in the life of this amazing 36...and if you're lucky enough, you may just be the next custodian...
