A GENUINE AUTHENTIC "BARN FIND" 55 CHEVY!

This old survivor has spent the last few decades laid up in the corner of a dirty dusty old shed in rural Canterbury, after coming off the road sometime in the early eighties....

After recently cleaning the points, and putting some fresh fuel in the carb unbelievably it roared into life again! and actually managed a drive around the paddock quite happily, still shifting gear and trying hard to stop when the brakes were applied,

This old girl appears to be almost 100 percent complete, and is virtually original right down to the old black licence plates, and period Air Ranger radio,

Interestingly this example has a lot of the extra trim and bumper over riders that usually adorn the much higher grade Chevys, and judging by the weathered condition it's all been on there since new.
The big six cylinder engine ticks over well, and appears to be relatively happy in its work, settling to a quite idle pretty much straight away.
The leather interior trim is well worn with a great patina, and all of the interior trims and fittings appear to be present and correct.
As cool as this old darling is, make no mistake, this is going to take a lot more than a couple of night school courses and a mig welder in the garage at home to be put back on the road.....the usual rust prone areas of the Tri-Five Chevy are all affected in one way or another by tin worm in this example, the sills, floors, trunk floor, and rear quarters are all affected and will need some form of attention from someone with expert panel skills to enable any attempt at re-registration, there will also no doubt be other areas that will be affected too, as with any restoration, but that said, we have seen a lot worse restored over the years, and a lot worse that has come in from the good old USA being passed off as drivable......

The beauty of these old Chevys is that everything is readily available new, including replacement body and structure panels, so this example is certainly not beyond help..........

This old girl could be a rewarding project for someone prepared to take on a full restoration, or would be the ideal basis for that Hot Rod/Gasser project you have had in the back of your mind for years........
You certainly won't be driving this one home, but she's complete, moves around under her own stream, and best of all it is a genuine Right Hand Drive NZ new 55!
