This delightful old Kiwi New car has been fully restored from the ground up by its long term owner who is an absolute perfectionist engineer, and who has clearly loved this car to within an inch of its life.
Purchased as a solid old driving South Island survivor this Impala was stripped down to a rolling chassis, which had everything removed, and the extensive restoration commenced...
The bare chassis has had every bush and mount replaced throughout and has been fitted with all new suspension components, before having the heavily detailed engine, gearbox, and diff reinstalled, and while this work was being undertaken the bare metal body was having many hours of meticulous body work carried out locally, with patience and care to get all panels straight and aligned better than they ever would have been in 65. After this work was completed, the impressive big body was repainted in a handpicked colour which is simply gorgeous in person, and complements the clean sweeping lines of the Big Chevy to perfection.
The mechanical components consist of a fully rebuilt and balanced 396 Big Block which is now out to 402 cubes, and has been fitted with 454 big valve heads, a steel crank, a power/economy camshaft, custom mandrel bent headers, with a stainless exhaust system, and is topped off by a 750 Holley 4 barrel.
The very lively engine runs into a rebuilt TH400 auto trans, which in turn runs into a 12 Bolt Chevy diff, so you are not going to break this combination to easily! and with the added bonus of
power steering and power disc brakes this big car is an absolute pleasure to drive, and is very user friendly.
The beautiful interior was completely retrimmed in supple leather in a traditional deep buttoned style, which looks fantastic along with all new carpeting throughout, a new hood liner, door trims, dash top, the list just goes on and on!
All new rubbers and fully refurbished chrome and stainless trim completed at great expense set this 65 apart, and make for a car that can now be shown proudly at any show you wish to attend.
Released after much deliberation from long term ownership this remarkable big Chevy is being offered well under replacement cost to this standard today, and represents a lot of car for the money with all the hard work done, and the 65 is the iconic model that everyone wants!
