A rare opportunity exists today where you could own a genuine pair of Shelby GT350-H "Rent-A-Racers". Just released from long term ownership this is a remarkable pair, one the original and totally iconic example from 1966, the other the rare Shelby GT350-H 40th Anniversary model from 2006, offering what is quite possibly the only pair available anywhere together, certainly in NZ, and almost certainly in the Southern Hemisphere.
The 1966 car number # 6S840 has its details recorded in the Shelby registry, and arrived here in NZ in 1989,
A very well known and respected local car, this car was the subject of an extensive yet sympathetic full bare metal no expense spared restoration carried out by one of our country's leading restoration companies Burkes Metal Works, and testament to the quality of their workmanship, this car is gorgeous from head to toe in every aspect of the restoration, and has won awards for its overall presentation.
Prior to restoration this example was in very good honest condition, and was really only restored due to the current owner being a perfectionist who wanted the very best example he could ever hope to obtain, so the quality restoration was commenced and is well documented, and was as thorough as you would expect with a car of this calibre and pedigree.
This Shelby has some minor league classic race history here in NZ, and has been restored with its performance pedigree in mind with the K-Code engine running to a considerably higher spec of tune than the original 306 hp, yet this example is still a real fun car to drive with the magnificent 289 running into a Hurst shift 4 Speed manual transmission, and on into the factory fitted 9 inch diff.
This exceptional example has all of the correct features associated with this iconic car including the Plexiglas side windows, and competition seatbelts, and even has documentation to prove that it has had the glove box lid signed by the legend himself, Mr Carol Shelby!
The younger sister of this pair is a genuine 2006 Shelby GT350-H Rent-A-Racer which has been here in NZ since 2008 with the one lady owner, and has travelled a mere 46k miles.
The 06 version of the Iconic Rent -A-Racer is far more than a base Mustang too, harking back to the style of the original 60s cars with enhanced looks and performance.
The 4.6 litre engine is further enhanced with the addition of the FR1 performance package giving a true performance boost while Fords FR3 handling package was also order of the day from Mr Shelby, to make sure the new car didn't disappoint, among other neat additions, and of course that iconic trade mark black with gold stripe livery.
