How cool is this old piece of Kiwiana!

The HR Holden Special, a great model for the legendary Holden range, and one most kiwis over 40 will have fond memories of.

These old girls used to be everywhere, every camp ground had more than a few at holiday times, pulling the caravan or boat and they were common place on our roads forging a reputation for being hard workers for many years, and this one even has the cool period photos to prove it!

This particular example is a real old honey, and a great honest survivor.
Starting her life being sold new in December 1966 from Horrells the GM dealer in Rangiora North Canterbury, she looks pretty much like she did some 50 plus years ago, and has clearly benefited from a great life having spent almost its entire life in the little town of Outram in Otago, with long term ownership, and doting owners.
From her period pale green exterior to the lovely contrasting two tone green interior trim, this one is a real step back in time.

The body on this example is remarkably good and solid and shows no obvious signs of the usual issues that plague older Holden's, with the overall fitment of the panels and finish being refreshingly good, with exceptionally good lower panel areas, and the paintwork although older has a really nice shine and finish.

The running gear is a lovely package from the neat and responsive 186 Red Six which is coupled up to an Aussie 4 speed floor shift, which drives superbly, and is made even nicer with a magic exhaust note coming from the Pace maker headers and single system.

Nice chrome and trim complement this old Holden and a few neat period accessories finish her off nicely, while a set of highly polished 17 inch Show wheels and low profile rubber give her a modern twist.

This lovely old HR is well worth a look if your after an affordable Aussie chrome bumper classic, she is an absolute pleasure to drive, with fantastic manners on the road, you simply just want to keep on cruising when your behind the wheel, and I can honestly say I have driven a lot of cars with much bigger ticket prices that don't even come close to how sweet this old girl is to drive!
