This radical First Gen Camaro is a serious piece of gear for a buyer who appreciates a Resto-Mod style Proper Old School Muscle Car, and appreciates what it costs to actually build a car like this.......
Starting with a clean solid 68 Camaro a lot of research has clearly gone into this serious build which incorporates a full tubular chassis system up front with space frame style inner chassis members, tubular top and bottom arms, fully adjustable coil over shocks etc, then continuing along the same theme the chassis is fully connected front to rear with heavy duty tubular arm sub frame connectors, and a full tubular rear end set up housing a custom four bar set up with a cross over pan hard bar, and again fully adjustable quality coil over shocks, with everything adjustable to suit the type of work that may be required.
The Chassis is a work of art, and is certainly an impressive platform to start with, the drive line is equally impressive with a very staunch 454 Big Block residing in the engine bay, which appears to have had quite a bit of work, coupled to a TH400 heavy duty trans, and on to a Chevy diff with an LSD head, so it is also very capable of getting the job done.
Braking duties are taken care of with a full set of cross drilled and vented Brembo disc brakes at all four corners, and Rack and Pinion power steering takes care of the turning duties.
Unfortunately there is not a lot of information available regarding the mechanical spec of the engine as our vendor purchased the car as it is at great expense complete from the US, so we don't have any specific information available for the engine, although it is clearly apparent on the first drive that this Camaro was definitely built to go stop and handle as a well sorted road race style car.
The body work is clean and tidy, and appears solid and relatively straight with older but tidy and very presentable 2 pack paintwork in a stunning Sapphire Blue metallic finish with Z28 Style Run Way stripes, and a steel cowl hood complemented by the hideaway headlamp treatment of the RS giving this tough Camaro an even more sinister appearance.
The interior has been restored with a new Deluxe interior kit including a full console with the Staple shifter, Tick Tock Tacho, Full gauge package along with a Grant steering wheel which finishes the interior nicely, and all new weather seals and felts.
A well sorted package which still drives surprisingly nicely, and is still relatively user friendly, until you give it a poke with a stick....
well worth a look if this style of Muscle Car appeals as you certainly couldn't build it for the asking price, and although not a perfect un marked show car, as she has been driven and enjoyed as it was intended, this example is still very presentable, and really looks the part.
Clearly the driving force was originally focused on overall performance rather than perfect cosmetic detail, as there are some minor cosmetics that could be improved, and are probably well deserved, but it's obvious that the time and money has certainly been spent, make no mistake.
