The legendary HT GTS Monaro needs little introduction...... there have been few cars that created such a sensation when released, and still have that same effect over 40 years on......
This absolutely gorgeous example left the assembly line in early May of 69 and is a very early production HT with the build number of # 86
Optioned from new as a genuine 80837 GTS V8 Manual, in one of the best colours available at the time of "Spanish Red" complemented by the Sandalwood interior trim, this GTS would have been something quite special way back in 69!
The fully recorded history confirms this example was imported to NZ in 1972, and lived a relatively drama free existence for many years, having had limited ownership, and having been stored for many years before being discovered in 2003 as a very solid complete survivor car, once uncovered a very extensive and completely sympathetic restoration was commissioned to bring this stunning GTS back to its current very high standard of finish over the next couple of years, only hitting the open road again in mid 2005.
Having been displayed and admired in many local car shows over the last few years, and featured in the NZ Classic Car magazine, even making it to the cover, this well respected local car has been driven and not hidden so has a fantastic authentic look, a lot of research was conducted throughout the restoration to ensure this is not just another over restored example that has lost it original soul, but was restored to ensure that it would be an exceptional example that represents the period to perfection, this car really does look almost just like it would have over 40 years ago.
The quality restoration consisted of the super straight clean body being stripped back to bare metal, and being fully repainted after extensive researching of the correct colour shades and tones throughout, to ensure this Monaro had the dead right look, the driveline was restored in the same fashion with the correct period 308 Holden engine receiving a full overhaul including a mild cam grind to enhance performance, and a full period correct engine bay detailing.
The original 4 speed Saginaw was inspected and found to be in great condition so was cleaned up and reinstalled, and this all runs through to a 10 bolt diff, with the correct 3.08 LSD head, and the car also features power steering, and the sought after rear traction rods, normally found on the GTS-350s that are believed to have been ordered with this car from new.
All of the chrome and bright work is either NOS or fully refurbished and gleaming to perfection, finished off with a set of original style GTS full face wheel covers this Monaro is simply spectacular.
Inspection will impress a genuine buyer who appreciates the time and money thats been invested in this rare car to be presented as it is today, it really is a stand out example of one of the all time great Collectable Muscle Car Classics of our time, with a truly timeless style,
