Now this is very cool and very different!
If you want a car that will stand out at your local Cars and Coffee event and turn quite a few heads, then this is it!
The AMC Javelin SST was a seriously under rated car in a lot of respects, and the absolute underdog, but it was a fantastic and aggressive looking car with a very interesting and successful back story.
The very successful team Penske driver Mark Donahue was lured away from GM to drive the AMC Javelin in the 1970 Trans Am Series in which he won three races before ultimately winning the 71 Trans Am series in a Javelin, which would in turn give these cars the recognition they rightly deserved.
Donahue would design some unique features to homologate these cars for the series, and a special edition model was created in his honour.
This very cool looking example decodes as a genuine SST Javelin with the 360 4V engine coupled to the Shift Command automatic transmission, it also has power steering and has been fitted with power disc brakes, so it its an absolute pleasure to drive with excellent road manners.
Although not restored this has clearly been a good car thats been treated well throughout the decades as it still presents very well today, and finished in the bright flame red with white side winder stripes and the unique Go Package Ram Air style hood and unique spoilers front and rear, this is one bold and proud Muscle Car from the height of the Muscle Car wars.
The clean body displays well with nice tidy older paintwork which gives this SST a really authentic period style, while the neat interior is also a very cool place to be with cloth insert seating, and a full length centre console with the neat wood grain dash layout complete with the 140 MPH speedo and 8k rev counter.
A nice set of Magnum 500 styled steel wheels with raised white letter tires complete the picture, and leave little doubt this is a proper old school muscle car.
To confirm a genuine one of only 2,501 Mark Donahue Edition Javelins is basically impossible to do without original documentation, and as we dont have that available for this machine we cannot confirm how this example was originally ordered, or if indeed it is a genuine factory built MDE, however its obviously not priced as a genuine documented example, so lets just say its simply a really cool old car in its own right despite how it started its life, or what options it had ticked in 1970.
All of the cool and unique Mark Donahue features appear to be fitted to this Javelin to give it the dead right look, and the personal plates are included in the sale.
A very tight driving example of a very rare car in this part of the world, well worth a look if you like your cars with point of difference and an affordable price tag
A lot of car for the money compared to everything else from the USA that was built in 1970
