When did you last see an unmolested original survivor MK 1 Pre Facelift Capri?
These Cool old Capri's sadly got thrashed to death by every young hoon back in the day, including me if I'm honest, and not many have survived today in their original form.
According to the original ownership papers which amazingly still accompany this little gem, this genuine 1600 GT XL was sold new from Hutchinson Motors Ford in Christchurch to its first lady owner in on the 15th December 1970, and has live in the Canterbury area its entire life!
Fresh from a deceased estate this remarkable old survivor was in the ownership of its last owner for almost 40 years, and has always been garaged and treated with respect, and was still being driven until recently.
Showing 126k original miles, one drive of this old Capri makes you quickly realise why they were such a success in their day, and why they are simply still a very usable classic today, and one more than capable of keeping up with today's traffic and still turning heads at 50 years old!
The body on this example is very honest, straight and very tight, it has never had any major damage and shows no evidence of ever having had major rust repairs in the past either, the front guards have never been off the car and it appears to still have all of its original sheet metal.
The paintwork is finished in a stunning Aqua metallic, which would have really been something in 1970 , and still gets complemented today. The paint still presents well over all for an unrestored survivor, but that said every panel has a blemish or mark somewhere due to being thoroughly enjoyed, and it has had a few touch ups over the 50 year period around the exterior as would be expected by now, but it's all part of its original character and it simply doesn't deserved to be touched, at the end of the day where would you find another one as honest?
The little 1600 GT engine is very happy in its work, smooth quiet and running really well, and still performing just like a good Ford should, the gearbox feels sound and the diff unusually doesn't whine, and over all just a nice driving example.
The almost completely untouched authentic interior tells the story of a well loved car, with no reproduction parts having ever been fitted, it's still very comfortable to drive, and it still smells like 1970!
If your after an absolutely mint or perfect car then this isn't the one for you, but if you understand and appreciate survivor cars that display the fact that they have lived a decent life and lived to tell the tale, with a few bumps and bruises worn as badges of honour , you probably won't find another example like it....
Enquire today, a very cool little car that will bring memories flooding back and put a smile on your face!
