It is an absolute pleasure to market this absolutely gorgeous Mach 1, which we sold to the current owner over 20 years ago!
Some cars just leave a lasting impression, and this car is certainly one of them, known to us for over 40 years this has always been a very special and well admired car that has been treated with absolute respect since arriving here in NZ almost brand new in 1971.
I personally remember this car from my school days, which was a while ago! It was always immaculate then, and thats never changed.
One of the most original and unmolested examples we have ever seen, this Mach 1 has a beautiful original un tampered with body and remarkably still wears quite a bit of its original paintwork, proudly wearing a few minor chips and marks as you would expect, and she has been polished through on some of the sharp edges, but still presents beautifully.
Remarkably this example still has its original interior with perfect patina and minimal genuine wear, complete with the original working original Philco radio, and working Rim Blow steering wheel, all further confirming the true survivor status of this rare Mach 1.
The running gear in this magnificent Mach 1 is a very lively 351 Windsor coupled to a Hurst Shift Top Loader, and out to the nine inch rear.
The engine has had very minor upgrades with a performance inlet, 4 barrel and headers fitted, but all of the original date code correct day one components are retained and accompany the sale.
The Windsor powered cars have gained a reputation for being a well-balanced performer with their lighter weight engine, as opposed to the Cleveland, and the Windsor engine in this example is no exception with nice lively performance, and great feedback to the driver.
This Mach 1 has never been restored, its simply never needed it, and overall is pretty much representative of how it would have looked 54 years ago.
This very special Mach 1 was originally a central Otago car before spending a long time in North Canterbury with a previous Ford Mechanic owner, who only reluctantly let go of the car when he could no longer drive it, and then we sold her to the last owner of over 20 years, who it is fair to say has absolutely cherished it, so its been a very fortunate car that has survived the decades without any form of abuse.
A remarkable time capsule and an absolute pleasure to drive with a super tight feel on the road and lovely manners, you would go a long way to find a better example, and if there is a better original one out there we would love to see it!
Black licence plates, 4 Speed manual- 351 Windsor- perfect provenance, what more could you really want?
