The Iconic Shelby GT500 Big Block 428 Cobra Jet!

An Iconic car in its own right being recognised as the last of the Shelbys from the original association with Carroll Shelby and Ford, this is a significant car that really marked the end of an era.
As far as these magnificent cars are concerned it doesnt get much better than this, this thing was pretty much the King of the Hill in its day, and was a mix of high performance and premium luxury rolled into one, being considered a real drivers car of its era.
A serious car for the astute collector this example has an interesting history..

It is believed that this example which was originally a special order to the Ford Motor Company as a Home Office Reserve Order under Domestic Special Order according to its extensive documentation was deliver new to New York to be displayed promoting the model.
Born in Dearborn in June of 69 and released in September of the same year registered as a 1970 model, this stunning example was ordered from new as a R-Code 428 Cobra Jet with the desirable four speed Close Ratio Manual Hurst Shift Transmission , Power steering, and Traction -Lok rear axle.
One of the prettiest colours of the period was also chosen that being Gulf stream Aqua metallic, complemented by Gold reflective stripes and a beautiful Black Deluxe interior with all of the fruit you could ever hope to have inside the cock pit of this amazing machine.
This car was sourced for its long term owner many years ago buy a good friend who worked for the highly respected Hendricks Motor Sport who know a thing or two about performance Iconsand was picked for its honest originality.
This example was imported to NZ around 25 years ago and has remained in dry storage for almost all of that time before being retrieved recently and after being put through the stringent and expense process of recommissioning a vehicle of this nature, and is now registered for use on our roads.
Thankfully this CJ has clearly lived a very good life and according to the documents and speedometer it is showing its mileage as being circa 37k miles, with notes along the way from its early days appearing to confirm this. Regardless this CJ presents as a very honest unmolested example which is still remarkably showing some of the original day one exterior paintwork, its original floors and panels and appears to have never been pulled apart other than the recent mechanical recommissioning works completed locally.
The body is beautiful and dry and true to its Shelby panel fitment is not perfect but it is just how they actually were, totally authentic which is quite refreshing to see, and on inspection there do not appear to be any reproduction parts fitted to this example, further confirming it has survived largely untampered with.
The running gear although not rebuilt is all in good working order and this magnificent old Shelby drives just like a big block Mustang on Poli glass tires should! Its got plenty of torque and you actually need to drive the thing, she certainly isnt a modern eco-friendly Mustang and makes no bones about it, but it very much delivers a memorable pure period authentic driving experience of a proper real deal Shelby!
A very difficult car to find today, and in this original unrestored and complete condition.. almost impossible, while the original components have also been retained that required replacement for compliance, and accompanying the vehicle is the original production build sheet found in the car, and a Deluxe Marti Report.
