What an absolute stunner!
This magnificent and highly desirable XY Fairmont is presented today in fantastic condition, having clearly been the subject of a very sympathetic yet extensive restoration of what was clearly a very good original low mileage survivor car.
This 8-71 built example was ordered new from B.S Stillwell Ford of Melbourne in 1971, and as well as being a high spec Fairmont was also believed to have been ordered as an option 48 GS Grand Sport package car from new, so would have been quite the thing to have in the day finished in Deep Monza Green with saddle trim, and of course came with the desirable sports dash layout in GT style, deep bucket seats, and a full centre console, Super Fringe Radio, and the unique GS steering wheel as part of the desirable GS package.
According to the original compliance plate which is still attached, this example was originally a L code 250 car, which probably explains why it survived the decades so well, and according to the history supplied by the previous owner had only travelled 47k miles, and had been stored away in Australia for many years until the decision was made to restore the car.
While the restoration was being completed, a period correct 302 V8 was sourced and fitted along with a later model Falcon V8 4 wheel disc brake rear end, which have both made a very decent performer and driver out of this one, and refreshingly a lot of time and effort has also gone into making this example look factory correct and authentic in all respects.
The body on this example is one of the best we have seen, and the attention to detail is probably far better than new, while the two pack paintwork is simply stunning complemented by the Gold GS side winder stripes, and original GS hub caps.
The immaculate saddle interior is simply a joy to behold, with a mixture of immaculate original fittings, including the original door trims, and fully refurbished seating, along with the correct perforated hood lining, and loop pile carpets.
The chrome and bright work is simply beautiful on this example, immaculate bumpers and chrome trim complement the overall finish and make this one a very hard example to beat...
Restored in Australia and imported to NZ in 2007, this example still looks fresh today, is fully LVVTA certified for its tasteful modifications, and is a real credit to its retired ex mechanic owner, who has reluctantly decided to move onto to other ventures.
You would go a long way to find a cleaner one of these cars, the money you would spend on an average one to make it look this good would be far more than the price of this one, and you would still have to find one first....
