How cool is this tough little customer!
This stunning Daytona Yellow Mk 1 Escort is a well known Canterbury car having been raced here for the last few decades, after being turned into a race car by one of our previous clients, and it's always been one of those cars that looked great where ever it went, and was always very well presented at the many different events it has contended.
This little Escort comes with a fully homologated roll cage, and current log book, so is ready to go club racing as it sits, and has proven itself to be more than capable in the right hands, and could easily be further developed to pretty much any form of circuit racing or hill climb work, depending on how far towards the pointy end of the field you want to get!
The body appears very sound and solid, and presents very well for a well used competition car, the interior is in very good order and the original driver's seat is still with the car too. The neat early Six Clock dash is still in place and the Classic Mexico theme has been retained with original trim and fittings,
The body shows no obvious signs of major reconstructive surgery, and doesn't appear to have been used on gravel at any point, so is still pretty clean throughout, the paintwork is also in very nice order and well above average for an old racer, overall this is a nice clean tight little classic race car with a very fresh and very lively 1600cc engine, singing through a pair of classic twin Side Drought 45 Webber carbs, with well upgraded brakes and suspension, a quick rack, and an LSD diff, that's a whole lot of fun to drive!
If your after a genuine documented unmolested one owner Mexico then best of luck, and keep looking, this car is most certainly not being represented as anything like that, it's an old classic race car with all the bumps and bruises associated with that sort of life,
The genuine Ford ID Tag which is still fitted decodes the car as a Daytona Yellow Mk1 1598cc Mexico with black trim built in 1972, however there are no guarantees given or implied as to what is still genuine Mexico and what isn't, as it is a 43 year old race car.
The body appears to have type 49 shell braces and mounts, which may or may not have been fitted from new, and from the research conducted by us with previous owners and a physical inspection of the vehicle we cannot absolutely confirm if a re-shell of the vehicle has ever taken place or not, likewise how many repairs or modifications have been made throughout its career, so this example is priced and marketed based on how it is presented today, and its current specification, it was first registered here in NZ in 1986 and its history prior to that is unknown, other than that it was imported as a road going car that was believed to be a genuine car at that point.
The registration is on hold, and the personal plates RS MEX are included in the sale.
