The iconic XY Ford Fairmont!

These cars really captured the imagination of Kiwis and Aussie alike with their big sharp aggressive squared off lines and impressive styling, and it didnt hurt that the legendary GT HO Phase 3 model of the series dominated on the racetracks back in the day either, no doubt helping to make the XY one of the most desirable of the Australian Fords some 50 + years later!
Any XY that survives now is a sought after classic, with clean examples being rare and highly prized and as a result.
This upmarket luxury Fairmont model is a late build being a December 71 model, first registered in Jan 72, and it has been here in NZ since 1981 according to is registration history.
Starting its life as 250 car would have probably saved it from the usual GT replica treatment that most of these cars got early on, and it was probably just a family driver that didnt get thrashed to death like its V8 brothers, so its survived to tell the story.
At some point in the past this smart looking XY was repowered with a nice running 4 barrel 302 V8 coupled up to the automatic transmission and lowered down on a set of old school highly polished eight inch Tridens, which look fantastic on this example.
The body presents well having just recently had a decent cosmetic tidy up and a full exterior repaint in the smart Polar White finish, no doubt there will have been previous repairs carried out over the years to keep her tidy, which is as you would expect with any 50 + year old XY, but over all this example presents very well, and gives a good indication that this has always been a reasonably clean solid car.
The engine bay is tidy and presentable, and has been freshened up at some point in the past too, with some nice chrome dress up gear, so you can proudly open the bonnet at a car show if thats your thing.
Up on the hoist the underbody and floor presents in tidy and very honest condition, with a clean original finish still evident.
The interior has been retrimmed nicely in the original black basket weave, and is a mixture of good original Fairmont trim with new carpets, and re upholstered seats and dash having been fitted to bring this XY up to the standard it is presented in today, while the full bench seats front and rear make this a real old school cruiser that you can get everyone in at your local cruise nights!
A lot of the stainless trim around the exterior has been professionally polished to a high standard and gleams nicely complementing the clean sharp looking crisp white exterior finish.
A good old driver this neat XY has just completed a road trip from the deep south to get to us, and she never missed a beat.
This is not an absolutely perfect or fully restored example, nor would it be priced well under 100k.. but it is a clean tidy car that presents well with nice manners, a great exhaust note, and a great look, providing a real presence on the road.
A lot of XY for the money, and its certainly had some decent money thrown at it in the past, we usually see these cars with receipts for more than the asking price of this one
Take it to the next level and build your dream GT replica by adding a Shaker and stripes, or just enjoy her as it is, clean and simple with a great look, either way you couldnt really go wrong here..
