The legendary Falcon GT !
Not all XA GTs were created equal.. there were quite a few running changes made throughout the XA model run from start to finish prior to the introduction of the XB range, and this particular car is a desirable early build so has the XY style American cast D Block 4V engine and is a factory 4 speed top loader manual transmission car, with the prized single "Big Tag" it is also finished in its correct and highly desirable hero colour of Red Pepper with the Satin Black accents.
A genuine car with its matching number engine block makes this a very difficult car to find today, and the prices reflect this fact with them soaring ever skyward both here and in Australia...
This old GT was sold here in NZ new being delivered on the 15th of September 1972 and has been continuously registered thorough the decades, surviving through the eighties and nineties when most disappeared without a trace...
The staunch 351 is running strong with receipts for considerable previous work, and has been fitted with a performer manifold Holley carb and extractors giving plenty of punch and torque from the big lively old Clevo.
These old school GTs are now very rare as they did generally get a hard time back in the day.. and as with most proper old 70s Muscle this example has been thoroughly used and enjoyed over the last 50 years which does show, and it has remained un restored, so has its fair share of wear and tear with average older paint work which still presents ok, but is far from perfect. The body appears relatively straight with a few bumps and bruises adding to the overall character but it also makes this a car you could actually still drive and enjoy without the concerns associated with precious immaculate paintwork on a fully restored car.
The interior is tidy and presentable and still in reasonable order when you consider its white which never survived well, and is quite a rare colour combination.
Still retaining the correct early back to front gauges, correct steering wheel and original manual centre console, the interior has remained largely as standard, and is still just as cool as it was back in the seventies.
The chrome and bright work is all present and in reasonable order as well with an optional rear spoiler fitted to the boot.
Original 12 slots caps and bands give a period correct appearance to this old survivor and the colour combo is one of the best available back in 72!
If your after a perfect car to fill your trophy cabinet with cups and ribbons then this certainly isn't the car for you, but if you can appreciate a cool old survivor with plenty of patina and charm that goes like a good old hard charging GT Falcon should, then this one is well worth a look, a car that could be enjoyed as it is today with the benefit of being able to add value down the line with further investment in renovation if that's your thing.
