A very rare survivor...This XA Hardtop has clearly lived a pretty charmed life.
A Canterbury car all of its life this December 72 built Falcon 500 Coupe was ordered new with the Hi Performance 250 ci 2V engine and 4 speed top loader gearbox, and has remarkably managed to survive the decades remaining proudly a Six cylinder car today.
This Coupe is a well-known local Christchurch car from back in the day and was optioned up by its then owner with the standard day two modifications of the era, very early on it got the draylon cloth seat inserts, GT style bonnet with the vents and GT guard flutes along with a GT styled grille and spoiler.
Unbelievably this low ownership Hard Top is understood to have travelled a genuine documented original 59,000 miles, most of it covered by the original owner who treated the car like a baby for decades, and always garaged it, and testament to its respectful owner it still drives like a very low mileage tight honest old car...
The interior with the exception of the drivers seat bolster and the inserts is all original, even the original loop pile carpet is still present on the floor and the dash and door trims are immaculate.
The body presents very well and is exceptionally straight with nice tight shutting doors and doesnt present as if any major surgery has ever been undertaken, which is very unusual for any Hard Top..The bottoms of the doors and sills all appear untouched, and there is no evidence of previous accident damage either, with really honest engine bay and boot areas presenting with original welds and seams etc.
The paintwork which was refinished in the early 2000s is an older job now which appears to have been of a decent quality at the time, so apart from a few age related blemishes marks and chips it still presents really well with a decent shine.
All of the glass rolls up and down nicely, and all of the trim and fittings are present and in good order, along with nice clean original bumpers.
The strong old 250 purrs beautifully and pulls strong through the Top Loader while power steering makes a really nice car out of this old darling and makes you want to just keep driving it once your behind the wheel!
Big chrome wheels and raised white letter tires round out the Street Machine era look, and give this one a mean menacing look.
Anyone reading this add will be well aware of how rusty and nasty an XA Coupe can be..but this example appears to be incredibly dry in all the usual problem areas, it has never had the rear window area worked on at any point in its life, and up under the dash area is all still original paint, the 80s pop up sun roof might not be everyones thing, but thats what they did back in that day, and it would be a lot easier to remove that than try and fix a rusty old Coupe.....
