The Giant Killer!

The mighty LJ Torana in XU1 form proved to be a winning combination for both General Motors and a certain Mr Brock in 1972, conquering Bathurst that year and cementing itself in the history books as one of the great 70s legends of the Iconic Mountain race.

This stunning example of the breed is a well-known local Canterbury GTR that has enjoyed the same respectful ownership for a number of years since being restored from a completely stripped down shell, to the immaculate example it is today.

According to the body tags this gorgeous GTR was ordered from new finished in the magnificent Chateau Mauve colour with a gorgeous black interior, complete with the houndstooth inserts.
The restoration of this GTR included the original style interior, with the correct unique gauges and steering wheel all in place, and having been restored to the same level as the exterior is a lovely place to be, while the entire engine bay has been detailed to the same generally high standard of finish, with neat details throughout.
The engine residing in the spotless engine bay is a nicely detailed period correct 202 which has been rebuilt and fitted with triple Side Drought carburettors on a Red Line manifold to give this neat wee GTR a bit more of a classic period performance appeal.

The body has clearly been treated to a lot of attention presenting very well with lovely paintwork and excellent chrome and stainless trim which has all been refurbished to a high standard complementing the exterior nicely, while a highly polished set of Sprint Master alloys finish off the period appearance, and look absolutely stunning.

The stamped body number is still present on the LH inner guard, and the records state this GTR was sold new in NZ in 1973 being first registered in April of that year, and was believed to have been sold new in the Nelson region.

A large receipts file and stack of invoices accompany the sale of this very cool GTR, and it has clearly been built to be driven and enjoyed.

Not an easy car to find today at the now ripe old age of 50 years old, most of these got driven into the ground or butchered many years ago, so if one of these highly collectable Australian Muscle Cars is on your list, then this one is well worth consideration..
