Everyone had one of these back in the day or knew someone that did, and back in the day they were on every street corner in every colour imaginable.....including some in grey, and even some in black and white! but not anymore...
The iconic and timeless HQ style has always been popular, these cars just looked dead right straight out of the box, and have stood the test of time now becoming cult classics.
This stunning example has had a very decent life with most of its time spent around the North Canterbury region, and has just come to us from long term ownership from a local HQ enthusiast who rebuilt this clean old survivor from a very solid and original dry old car, back when you could still buy such a thing....
The body is remarkable for one of these cars, it's never been a rotten car, displaying very clean inners, sills and door frames, and shows no signs of having ever been accident damaged, with decent period finish shut lines, and has clearly been well looked after and garaged in its early years.
The refurbished paintwork is simply stunning finished in a lovely metallic Burgundy rendition of the original one year only Maroon colour this car was originally delivered in, while tasteful champagne GTS style bonnet and boot stripe panels give a very classy appearance to the big shapely body, and finished off with a nicely reconditioned set of period correct Monaro Ro Styles with BFG rubber she completes the 70s picture to perfection.
An almost perfect original black interior complements this example, and still retaining the original bench seats front and rear she's a fantastic old cruiser, and you can clearly see from the condition of the trim and fittings inside that this has always been a very good car.
The engine bay is now home to a previously reconditioned 308 4 barrel V8, which is detailed up to look completely period correct, which is a nice touch now days, and this shifts into a trusty Tri Matic auto on the column, while power steering and power brakes make this example an absolute pleasure to drive.
A lot of work, thought and money has obviously gone into the sympathetic restoration of this lovely old HQ, and it shows throughout, almost perfect stainless trim and chrome, nice original bumpers, new rubbers and really nice glass, all come together and make the package a complete turnkey enjoy fully sorted cruiser that will provide plenty of smiles per gallon!
You would be hard pushed to find a better example for the money, and you certainly couldn't build one to this standard today the price, so here's your chance...
