Originally sold new by Sockburn Ford Christchurch this example was purchased by its second owner from Palmer and Doak the big Ford dealers in Rangiora North Canterbury when it was just four years old.
Palmer and Doak where well known for being involved in the inception of some interesting cars back in the day, the Anglia GTs being the most well known, and they simply couldn't help themselves playing with and hotting up cars in those days, so when the owner of this near new Falcon decided he wanted to improve the car they were well and truly on board!
The extensive detailed documentation and amazing receipts file outlines the immense cost of building this sleeper in the eighties.. over $20k spend on a car that cost $14,995 no small amount of money in 1985...
The brief was essentially to turn an almost new stock standard six cylinder Falcon into a quick and capable road car that would go handle and brake like no other Falcon available here at the time, and a lot of research was carried out back before the ease of the internet, so this would have been no easy task reliant on a lot of painstaking research, with the help of the local Ford dealer to import all the goodies, and to put it mildly they nailed it, making this a very special old car.
The running gear consists of a nicely warmed up small block Windsor, coupled to a four speed manual and on into a LSD rear end with full 4 wheel disc brakes and ESP tramp bars to help get the power down, while fully adjustable Koni shocks on all four corners heavy duty springs and sway bars the size of downpipes help hold it all down nice and firm. The lighter more compact Windsor engine is a real rever and the weight makes for a far better handling car too.
For its time this would have been a seriously impressive hand built package and it's still a fun and enjoyable trick bit of kit today with a really neat unassuming clean sleeper look.
The body is remarkably good and presents exceptionally well over all with all of its genuine head lamps and tail lamps, bumpers and trim still in place while the largely original Solar Gold metallic still shines nicely too, confirming that most of its life has been lived tucked up undercover and well loved.
The original interior is amazing for its age with the correct sports full instrument dash and factory AM FM stereo also imported from Australia at the time of the build, and the original carpets are all still fitted, along with the original door trims all in excellent order.
A set of period CSA 15 x 7 Globe Daytona alloys were also imported back in the day and have been on the car most of its life.
The detailed documentation relating to the build of this Falcon is incredible and it's clear that is creator was very passionate about this cool old Falcon, and although a tough car it has clearly been treated with respect, and has survived without incident.
Inspection is a must if your an eighties Falcon fan, as this is a rare opportunity to own one of the cleanest XDs we have ever seen.
