Known officially as the Schroeder Acorn, and Built here in NZ in the nineties by an exceptionally skilled and passionate engineer completely from scratch and by hand, from painstakingly detailed drawings and diagrams this all alloy body over steel monocoque back bone framed beauty is built to an exceptional level of detail, and performs well beyond what would ever be expected of any custom built car.
The creator of this mobile masterpiece later went on into the aircraft industry and it is easy to understand why when you take some time to study this vehicle and the depth of development and time that must have been invested..
The hand built back bone frame work that is the base for this example is a design work of art in itself, and is the structure that supports all of the running gear which consists of an Alfa Romeo GTV 20000 cc Twin Cam engine, running twin dual choke 40mm Webbers, coupled to a GTV 5 speed Alfa Romeo trans axel, with the same Alfa again supplying its lower wish bones and uprights from the front suspension, with Jaguar XJ6 top wishbones, front and rear sway bars, rack and pinion steering, and full four wheel disc GTV Alfa 260mm brakes front and rear.
The body work is beautifully fabricated with louvers, scoops stainless, polished alloy and nickel adorning the bonnet and side panels, while leather straps holding the bonnet down firm and folding aero screens hark back to its racing pedigree and heritage.
The interior is fully fitted out in genuine soft brown leather and as a few miles are now under its belt it has that lovely used leather look that makes the package look authentic, while the magnificent machine spun finished alloy instament panel is home to old style instruments that look right at home.
This is a very well sorted and executed design throughout, this example has seen some competition use in the past, and proved itself to be more than capable, it has a full touring screen assembly that is easily fitted, and full wet weather hood equipment, which can be stowed in the back, along with a fully integrated heater system, and safety belts, making it very user friendly and an excellent open road tourer, in almost any conditions.
The cost to build this vehicle to this standard today would be a mind numbing amount of money, this one is proven reliable, it appears to be totally bullet proof, handles, stops and goes well beyond expectations, and will do almost everything you could ever expect of it, without any issues, it is a remarkable example of a scratch built vehicle, and if this style of vehicle appeals you would be hard pushed to find anything even close to the calibre of this little gem for this money.
